Townsville AFL scores home-ground advantage with Games On!

06 Mar 2026

Townsville’s Hermit Park Tigers Australian Football Club are set for a roaring season with upgrades to their home ground with Games On! funding.

The historic Townsville club received $375,000 funding to build two new spectator grandstands, new player benches and oval fencing.

Established in 1955, the Hermit Park Tigers are a long-standing pillar of Townsville’s AFL competition, and the upgrades ensure the club is well placed to continue inspiring future generations of North Queenslanders to play AFL.

The project is one of 119 that have already been funded under Games On! helping Queensland’s grassroots sport clubs benefit from the legacy of the 2032 Games.

Hermit Park Tiger’s upgrades coincide with a major boost to Games On!, with an extra $30 million on offer for Queensland sport clubs to build, upgrade and future-proof their facilities.  Registrations of interest are now open for the Games On Grassroots Infrastructure Program.
