Funded through the Games On! program, the project has delivered upgraded change rooms, creating a more welcoming and accessible environment for players, officials, volunteers and visitors.

Hervey Bay Hockey Association Secretary Cathy "Millie" Milijasevic said the upgraded change rooms would support the club’s future growth and ability to host major events.

“The Games On! program has allowed Hervey Bay Hockey Association to upgrade our change room facilities to cater for all levels of hockey tournaments, ultimately helping us attract elite events,” Ms Milijasevic said.

“The upgrade was put to the test when we hosted the Hockey Queensland Under 14 Girls State Championships recently. The facilities provided the standard required for an elite tournament, and the feedback from athletes, visitors and officials was overwhelmingly positive.

“The upgrade makes Hervey Bay Hockey Association a worthy contender when bidding for future elite sporting events and demonstrates our commitment to providing quality facilities for the game, our athletes and the community that supports our association through its volunteers.”

Established in 1958, Hervey Bay Hockey has been a cornerstone of the local sporting community for decades and today supports close to 200 members, with almost equal participation by women and girls and men and boys.

The association has a proud history of hosting state championships and major hockey events, welcoming athletes, officials and visitors from across Queensland to the Fraser Coast.

Games On! is designed to improve the quality and accessibility of grassroots sporting facilities across the state. The program is already supporting 119 projects throughout Queensland, helping grassroots clubs grow and encouraging more Queenslanders to get active and involved in sport.

By investing in community sporting infrastructure, local clubs are provided quality facilities that encourage participation, strengthen communities and leave a lasting legacy in the lead up to, and beyond, the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
