Brisbane comes alive for the most magical weekend in league

02 May 2025

Brisbane has officially kicked off the most exciting weekend on the rugby league calendar, with the NRL Magic Round lighting up the city and transforming Suncorp Stadium into a footy lover’s paradise.

Over the next 3 days, all 16 NRL teams will battle it out in 8 epic matches, all on the one hallowed field. It’s a unique celebration of the game that brings fans from far and wide to experience the magic in the heart of Queensland’s capital.

The weekend opened with a bang on Thursday night as the Ampol Women’s State of Origin series got underway. Fans flowed into Suncorp Stadium to see Queensland take on New South Wales, in a thrilling match that set the tone for what’s to come over the next three days.

Now in its second year as part of Magic Round, the Women’s Origin is fast becoming a fan-favourite fixture, adding even more energy to the already electric atmosphere of the weekend.

The sold-out Magic Round is expected to bring around 50,000 visitors to Brisbane, with many staying an average of 5 nights and contributing an estimated $50 million to the local economy.

With an expected 40 per cent of attendees travelling from outside Queensland, it’s clear that Magic Round is more than just a footy weekend—it’s a must-do experience for diehard fans and casual supporters alike.

Beyond the stadium, the buzz of Magic Round can be felt across the state. It’s a chance for Queensland to showcase why it’s a world-class option as a major sport host — and a preview of the experience in store in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
