Browne Park

Browne Park has been Rockhampton’s home of rugby league for more than 100 years and is home to the Central Queensland Capras.

The Queensland Government is funding a $56.226 million (GST exclusive) redevelopment of the site to provide a modern, fit-for-purpose major facility to service the region.

This redevelopment will be the next chapter in Browne Park’s long and proud history and will deliver an outstanding venue for the people of Rockhampton and more broadly for Central Queensland.

Stage 1 work is set to include:

  • building a contemporary three-level 3,253-seat grandstand featuring a roof (the old stand had 564 seats)
  • four universally designed change rooms and officials room
  • public amenities
  • food and beverage outlets
  • media and coach facilities
  • corporate areas
  • a function room
  • broadcast facilities
  • office administration space for up to three tenants including the Central Queensland Capras.

Upon completion of all stages of the master plan, the full ground capacity will double from 5,000 to 10,000 with up to 18,000 people able to be accommodated for stage events and concerts.

Stage 1 construction works are supporting more than 96 local jobs, while the contemporary new grandstand will create ongoing job opportunities in areas like catering and maintenance.

The vision is for Browne Park to be Central Queensland’s leading venue for community, national and international level sport and entertainment events.

Browne Park is an ideal location that does not flood and has operated successfully in a suburban environment, not far from the CBD for more than 100 years.

Benefits

  • Engaging local tradespeople and supporting jobs for Queenslanders.

  • Future event attraction and experiences for visitors and locals.

  • Legacy for Rugby League in Central Queensland.
