South Burnett Mountain Bike Club gears up for new trails
The mountain bike trails at Gordonbrook Dam in the South Burnett have been significantly upgraded, thanks to support from the Queensland Government’s Minor Infrastructure Program (MIP).
The South Burnett Mountain Bike Club was funded to transform the local trail network, gearing up for an exceptional rider experience for all skill levels.
The vision was to create a world-class mountain biking destination and with $206,359 in funding from MIP, the club has blazed new trails by extending and constructing almost 9 kilometres of exciting paths. These trails cater to all riders, from beginners to experts, ensuring a ride that’s wheelie fun and challenging for everyone.
The upgraded trails incorporate natural features like slopes, rocks, and fallen trees, enhancing the riding experience while preserving the stunning beauty of Queensland’s landscape. Trail 12, the Cross Country XCO Race Loop, offers a thrilling downhill challenge that’s bound to get adrenaline pumping.
Looking ahead, the club plans to develop a Dual Slalom trail, a Skills Park, and a Pump Track, further establishing Gordonbrook Dam as a go-to spot for mountain biking enthusiasts.
The upgraded trails encourage physical activity for Queenslanders, while promoting mental well-being, and fostering community spirit, in line with the 10-year Activate! Queensland strategy. The trails offer a safe, enjoyable environment for families, youth groups, and individual riders, inviting everyone to get out and enjoy Queensland’s breathtaking natural beauty.
Within 3 months of the upgrades being completed, the trails had been used over 3000 times! The club also held their first event utilising the new trail network, attracting over 80 riders who had nothing but praise for the new and improved course.
