A new grandstand at Eagle Farm to improve Power for the people
Works have begun to replace the ageing John Power Stand at Queensland’s premier racetrack, Eagle Farm.
The John Power Stand had served racegoers since 1957, and its replacement marks a significant milestone in the future of the iconic venue.
The $100 million project will involve the demolition of the existing John Power Stand and construction of a new grandstand, alongside works to the adjoining Heritage Stand. Initial works include site establishment, investigations, hoarding and enabling works, and the delivery of temporary patron facilities.
Once completed, the new stand will provide modern spectator facilities, with upgraded amenities, improved accessibility and an enhanced experience for racegoers, befitting Queensland’s spiritual home of racing.
The project is a key component of the Queensland Government’s The Next Lap: A plan for the future of Queensland racing, a suite of reforms designed to provide operational stability, new infrastructure, stronger integrity, and enhanced animal welfare for the racing industry in Queensland.
Brisbane Racing Club CEO Karl deKroo said the commencement of works represented an important milestone in the transformation of Eagle Farm.
“This is a significant moment for the Brisbane Racing Club and for Eagle Farm, with the redevelopment now moving from planning into delivery,” Mr deKroo said.
“The John Power Stand has served generations of racegoers, but its redevelopment is essential to creating a racecourse that meets the expectations of our members, patrons and the broader racing industry well into the future.
“We thank the Queensland Government and Racing Queensland for their investment and partnership.”
