Townsville students mark six years to go until the 2032 Games

23 Jul 2026

The countdown to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games has reached another exciting milestone, with Queensland officially marking six years to go.

Hundreds of students from Townsville State High School came together at the Townsville Sports Precinct to form a giant number six, creating a striking aerial image captured from Castle Hill.

The formation follows last year’s successful ‘7’ and celebrates North Queensland’s place on the journey towards 2032.

Landmarks across Queensland will also light up in green and gold to mark the milestone and celebrate the athletes, volunteers, sporting clubs and communities helping bring the Games to life.

With six years remaining, preparations are continuing to build momentum across the state as Queensland looks ahead to welcoming the world in 2032.

The 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will create lasting opportunities for Queensland communities and inspire more people to get involved in sport.

From Townsville to communities across the state, the countdown is officially on!
